Application Period Closed
Vision
The Education Foundation for Catawba County Schools was formed to provide Catawba County Schools' students with innovative learning opportunities. The Education Foundation will support promising educational practices, working with our teachers and with our community business partners, funding a range of projects from teacher classroom grants to district-wide educational opportunities.

Purpose
The Professional Development Scholarship Grant may be used for one of the following areas:
  • Higher Education – Tuition Reimbursement
  • Attendance at a regional, state, national, or international conference or professional development institute
  • Summer fellowship grants to pursue self-designed professional learning

Criteria

All employees of Catawba County Schools that hold a NC teacher license are eligible and may submit an application.
The applicant’s evaluation must be at least proficient on all standards (as verified by the applicant’s current supervisor).
The recipient must provide a professional development session to other CCS district employees upon completion.

Timeline
Application period is currently closed. Please check back after January 1, 2020.
Scholarships will be awarded by a scholarship committee in late April of 2020.

Application Steps
Applications should include the following:
  • Letter of interest stating for which of the three areas the applicant is applying and the specific timeline/dates for using the money. Applicants should explain the experience as well as how it will benefit them as a professional.
  • A budget showing specifically how the money will be spent.
  • Letter of support from the applicant’s current school principal. This should include verification of applicant’s evaluation being at least proficient on all standards.

Completed applications should be submitted to Rae Thompson in the Human Resources department.
Email Ms. Thompson

Payment of the Scholarship Money
  • Higher education – Payment of the scholarship will be made to the higher education agency of the teacher’s choice once proof of successful completion of the first semester is provided to the Scholarship Committee. If the teacher does not enroll in a higher education agency or certificate program, they will not be eligible for the award.
  • Regional, state, national, or international conference or professional development institute - Scholarship checks will be written directly to the recipient’s school so checks for the conference registration, hotel, travel, and other expenses may be paid directly to the vendors.
  • Summer self-designed professional learning - Funds will be paid directly to the vendors.

If the cost of the conference or training exceeds the cost of the scholarship, the recipient will need to commit personal funding or make other arrangements to supplement the cost.  If the cost of the activity is less than the scholarship awarded, the non-disbursed money will be returned to the Scholarship principal investment.
